  • Top water baits are more attractive for the smallmouth bass. However, for a top water bait, the water of the lake must be very still. When you go for the top water live bait, this bait fish feels dangerous and gets deeper into the water. The smallmouth bass follows this live bait deep in the water, therefore, you must be careful and cover a large area. Place the fishing lure on the shore about 15 yards out.
  • Another useful tip is that the smallmouth bass fish is affected by the phases of moon. Hence, you must be careful about the moon phases and when you plan to go for smallmouth bass fishing, research about the exact phase of moon.
