Most Aggressive Fish

A lot of people like watching and studying fish. They like to study the different traits the fish display. Some types of fish are aggressive, while others become prey to these aggressive fish. Some people choose to keep different types of fish at home as a hobby too, either because they like them or because they enhance the beauty of the place. On the other hand, some choose to keep fish in their aquarium, so that they can have a look at how the smaller fish become prey for the larger fish. Whatever be the reason for having an aquarium, it is natural that an aquarium owner will want to know, which fishes are aggressive in nature. Most Aggressive Fish in the World

Aquariums which are homes to different species of fish are known as community aquariums. On the other hand, an aquarium which is home to just one fish is known as a single fish tank. If an aquarium has fish of the same variety, it is known as a single species fish tank.

Barbs
The barbs belong to the list of top 10 aggressive fish. The most commonly seen barbs are tiger barbs, rosy barbs, cherry barbs and the gold barbs. Of these the gold barbs are least aggressive as compared to the other barbs. If there are fish of other species in the aquarium, then you may want to consider your decision of keeping barbs along with those fish.

Giant Snakehead
It is one of the most aggressive aquarium fish. They are their own predators. They are known to be strong, hardy and extremely aggressive. One of the qualities of this fish is that it is a voracious eater.

Red Belly Piranha
This is the classic type of aggressive fish. They are natives to the rivers in South America and are known to be very notorious. Live food is the staple diet of the piranhas. If they are very hungry or are agitated, they can also eat a finger dipped into the water.

Jack Dempsey
This fish is counted among the most aggressive freshwater fish. It is a native to Guatemala and Honduras. It is known to be destructive in the aquarium. Hence, it is better not to keep this type of freshwater aquarium fish along with other fish. It prefers to live in a hiding place.

Tangs
Tangs are also known as surgeon fish or doctor fish and make it to the list of most aggressive pet fish as well. They have small scales on their bodies. The spine of the fish often looks like a scalpel. The spine is used both in aggression as well as for defense. If you want to have them as pets, you will have to make sure that they have sufficient hiding place and a lot of area, where they can swim around.

Red Tailed Black Shark
Although the fish derives its name due to its shark like appearance, it feeds normally on plant life and is one of the commonly seen aquarium fish. It sports a velvety black and bright orange tail. It may grow up to six inches, but needs a lot of space. If there are other species in the tank and it does not get sufficient amount of space in the tank, it is known to become very aggressive. It is one of the species of fish, which is aggressive towards its own species itself.

Giant Danio
This aggressive fish comes from the southern Asian region. It is silvery blue in color. It can grow up to four inches in length, but has a narrow slender body. It is one of the most active species and like to school. The size and activity level in the fish, may bring out a lot of aggression in this fish and it can eat other fish in the tank. It is better kept in a species tank, to avoid other fish from being killed.

Deciding which is the world's most aggressive fish is rather difficult. We have some of the fish, which are inherently aggressive, but in some cases they can become overtly aggressive due to other reasons as well. Some of the reasons for a fish to become aggressive is illness, change in temperature or season, on reaching maturity, etc. If you notice, that any of your fish are displaying aggressive characteristics, then it is better to place the fish in a different tank and try to assess the behavior to find out the reason for aggression.
