Outdoor Hobbies

While some people prefer to while away time indoors, some of us just love the whole feeling of being outdoors. Indoors just seems to suffocate us and we long to be out in the open, with the breeze blowing on our faces and the bright blue sky above us. The range of outdoor hobbies we can carry out is endless. There are scores of options and this vast platter of options can cause us to pause and wonder how we actually want to invest our time. Time, money, facilities and location will also determine the kind of outdoor activities one indulges in.

Nature Trails
Nature trails or nature walks are truly fun times. The best part about this outdoor activity is that your only agenda is to walk from one point to your final destination. What you encounter on the way is all a surprise. This surprise element makes nature trails all exciting and fun. It all depends on how keen or interested you are in making discoveries. The trail you choose will lead you into a forest or thicket housing all sorts of insects, birds and animals. Keep your eyes open for unusual species of flora and fauna.

Camping

Camp life is mesmerizing in itself. It's a wonderful change from the routine city life. Staying in a tent, sleeping in your sleeping bag, sitting around a bonfire and baking potatoes under the starry sky is always exciting. It's good to pack your bags on a weekend and drive to an area where you can hitch a tent and enjoy the serenity and peace of the outdoors. Camping is perfect for all kinds of groups, be it friends or family.

Fishing
There are great saltwater and freshwater fishing sites available for fishing. Trout, salmon, bass, herring and various other varieties can be fished at freshwater fishing sites. For saltwater anglers there are treats like halibut, tuna, bluefish, cod, haddock, etc. However, one has to check regarding the fishing season in one's vicinity. If you really love fishing and wish to go for a vacation devoted primarily to fishing, then you can go to Massachusetts, Alaska, DownEast & Acadia in Maine, etc. It all depends on where you live and how far you want to travel. The whole feeling of standing on the boat deck and watching 50-foot, 40-ton whale swimming around you is a breathtaking moment! Once you taste this wonderful adventure, you will always want to come back for more. It's an altogether different feeling that leaves you mesmerized! If you are interested in whale watching, then South California is the place to go. It offers the finest whale watching tours all the year round.

Gardening
Some people love spending their time digging in the dirt and planting all kinds of herbs and shrubs. They seem to be intrigued by the way in which plants grow, multiply, flower and fruit. Vegetable gardening is something that scores of people enjoy doing. To enjoy this hobby all one needs is a vegetable patch outside the house and the enthusiasm to work towards transforming tiny seeds into fruits and vegetables of different colors, shapes, sizes and flavors. Flower gardening is also another interesting hobby.

Besides these above mentioned hobbies, some other hobbies that one can try out are fossil collecting, bird watching, geocaching, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, rock hounding, gold panning, hot air ballooning and many more.
